Moscow Mule

Happy Friday! Another week, another cocktail recipe! An overwhelming number of y’all requested a vodka-based cocktail last week. I will be the first to admit that I am not a vodka person, but I do love this particular recipe: the Moscow Mule!

What you will need:

Moscow Mule Copper Mugs

History:  In the late 1930s, John Martin, an executive at the Heublein drinks company, acquired Smirnoff Vodka. However, he was having difficulty selling it because vodka was not popular in the U.S. yet. To help market vodka, he invented the Moscow Mule by adding ginger beer and lime while putting the liquid concoction into a copper mug. The copper mug was said to give the drink a distinct look while also enhancing the flavor and cool temperature. This caught on quickly and helped aid vodka’s popularity in the States.

Drink if you like: This is a great drink if you like ginger and lime. It’s a very simple recipe to make with little cleanup.

Recipe :

-1 oz lime juice (~1 lime), plus a few slices for garnish

-2.5 oz vodka

-6.8 oz ginger beer

Instructions:

1. Fill the mug halfway full with ice.

2. Add the lime, vodka, and ginger beer. Mix the contents.

3. Add lime slices to garnish and top with more ice if there is room. Enjoy!
